You may be thinking "why should my dog eat fruits or vegetables?" Adding a few vegetables and fruits mimic the stomach contents of prey in the wild. These fruits and vegetables provided valuable supplemental nutrients to our dogs' ancestors who hunted their meals. Our companions benefit just as much today from them, and dogs love the taste!
MoJo's Morsels is proud of the ingredients we use. Every ingredient in our treats is thoroughly researched to determine health benefits, and are always high quality and human-grade. Our loving companions deserve nothing less than the best!
Not All Ingredients are Created Equal
Did you know that a product "Made in the USA" may include ingredients sourced outside the USA? Products are considered to be made in the USA if they are manufactured and/or distributed from a US location, but that does not mean the ingredients contained within were grown here. At MoJo's Morsels, we take great pride in researching our ingredients' country of origin. We regularly contact manufacturers directly to ensure that only American-grown produce and grains are used. It's not easy, but we believe this extra step is worth the peace of mind knowing without question from where the ingredients are sourced.
Apples are delicious treats for dogs, and they provide nutritional benefits as well. They contain vitamin C, pectin (soluble dietary fiber), calcium, and phosphorus. They are low in sodium and saturated fats. Added bonuses are that they also contain antioxidants like quercetin (which helps fight free radicals), and can improve a dog's skin and coat health by
adding omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids to his or her diet.
MoJo's Morsels uses only fresh apples grown solely in the USA in our treats.
Peanut butter is a treat many dog owners like to give their dog, because dogs simply love the taste. But did you know that peanut butter can provide valuable supplements to your dog's diet? Peanut butter is comprised of biotin and vitamin E. Biotin increases the sheen of your dog's coat, and improves skin quality and nail strength. Vitamin E is beneficial to your dog's immune system, which protects your dog from disease.
MoJo's Morsels treats are made with all-natural peanut butter, which contains no added salt, sugar, or oil. In fact, the
only ingredient of the peanut butter we use is certified non-GMO USA-grown peanuts!
Oats are a grain, but unlike cheap, over-processed grains used as non-nutritional filler in many commercial pet foods and treats, they are a healthy ingredient with a purpose. In fact, oats are used as as an alternative source of grain for dogs that are allergic to wheat! Oats have long been known to help lower cholesterol in the bloodstream, which means the risk of heart disease is reduced. The high fiber in oats may also contribute to colon health and act as an aid to combat constipation. In addition to the benefits of a whole lot of fiber, these tasty grains also contain high levels of protein and are a good source of vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, iron, zinc and B vitamins. In humans, oats can help control blood sugar levels--the same could also benefit dogs with diabetes. Finally, oats are packed with selenium, a powerful antioxidant that has been linked to heart health, DNA repair and colon cancer prevention.
The oats we use in our treats are certified organic, and as with all our ingredients, MoJo's Morsels only uses oats grown in the USA. We proudly use Cream of the West's organic oats--grown on the high plains of Montana.
Pumpkins are very rich in fiber and adding it to your dog’s diet may help the digestion process. It is naturally low in saturated fat, sodium and cholesterol, and is a good source of vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin E, beta carotene (a source of Vitamin A), phosphorous (aids in bone and teeth maintenance, most metabolic actions in the body including kidney function, cell growth, contraction of the heart muscle, and assists the body in using vitamins), magnesium (to maintain a healthy heart and to assist in the absorption of calcium and potassium), and potassium (maintains fluid balance in body cells, muscle function, transmission of nerve impulses, and heart activity). In keeping the G.I. tract moving with high-fiber foods like pumpkin, the cells lining the gut are kept healthy. In addition, foods with high fiber content help keep your dog fuller, which is why pumpkin is a good choice for dogs that need to keep extra pounds off!
The pumpkin puree MoJo's Morsels uses in our treats has only one ingredient in it, which is 100% USA-grown pumpkin!
Despite its name, buckwheat is not wheat, cereal or grass of any kind. Buckwheat is a fruit seed which makes it a good choice for dogs who cannot tolerate wheat or gluten. It is a very low glycemic food, meaning it will not spike the blood sugar when eaten, which can lead to ailments such as canine diabetes. Buckwheat contains both magnesium and flavonoids such as rutin, which help maintain excellent cardiovascular health by improving blood flow and lowering lipids in the bloodstream. It is a high-quality source of protein that is easily digested. Because of this ease of digestibility and its many health benefits, buckwheat is a good choice for most dogs, including both senior dogs and puppies!
The milled buckwheat MoJo's Morsels uses is sourced exclusively from buckwheat grown in the USA.
Pears are naturally high in vitamins C and K, as well as nutrients such as copper, all of which act as antioxidants. These antioxidants help to protect your dog’s cells from damage from free radicals, may reduce the risk of cancer, and help combat aging and inflammation. Pears are an excellent source of dietary fiber, which is good for digestion and the heart. Studies have shown that fiber can lower levels of bad cholesterol. They also have a low glycemic index which prevents a spike in blood sugar. Although few studies have been done on the subject, pears are generally considered to be a hypoallergenic fruit because they are less likely than other fruits to produce an allergic response when eaten!
MoJo's Morsels uses only fresh pears grown in the USA in our treats.

It is rich in many nutrients such as sugars (glucose and fructose), enzymes, minerals (magnesium, potassium, sodium chloride, iron, phosphate and sulfur), vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and C), and proteins of various types including the pollen grains themselves, which can contain essential oils and other phytonutrients. Honey is also anti-inflammatory and can serve to reduce inflammation in the intestinal tract. The natural sugars in honey are easily broken down by the body and can boost your dog's energy.

Flax seed is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential fatty acids that are good for your dog's skin and coat, can boost your dog's health, and can play a major role in maintaining the immune system.
